About the Gosenzo Karte
The Gosenzo Karte is a tool for exploring and organizing what you have inherited from your family and ancestors—and for considering what you want to keep, what you want to let go of, and what you want to choose differently in the life ahead.
It is not simply a family tree that records names and blood relationships.
The values your family has held important.
Events and experiences that have repeated across generations.
Words and phrases you grew up hearing.
Roles you have taken on within your family.
Homes, land, work, and possessions that have been passed down.
And the choices you yourself have made along the way.
The Gosenzo Karte puts these things into words, one by one.
None of us begins life with nothing.
We begin with many things that we did not choose for ourselves.
But there is an important distinction:
Inheriting something does not mean we have to continue living its story.
First, we become aware of what we have received.
Then we can begin to ask:
I want to keep this.
I no longer need this.
I want to reshape this in a way that feels right for me.
I want to pass this on to the next generation.
And from there, we make our own choices.
That is why I created the Gosenzo Karte.
By Referral Only
At present, the Gosenzo Karte is available by referral only.
I do not accept applications from the general public.
A referral also does not automatically mean that I will accept a request.
Because the Gosenzo Karte deals not only with the individual but also with information about their family and ancestors, I first take time to understand the purpose and nature of the request.
I proceed only when both parties feel comfortable moving forward.
A referral alone is not the deciding factor.
What matters is that we both feel this is something we genuinely want to undertake together.
What We Explore Through the Gosenzo Karte
The Gosenzo Karte brings together information about your family and family history to examine what has been passed down from several different perspectives.
Patterns Across Generations
We look back at experiences involving work, marriage, divorce, relocation, inheritance, caregiving, family businesses, and other significant life events to see whether similar circumstances have appeared across generations.
What matters here is this:
We do not assume that “your ancestors are the cause.”
If we notice similarities, we first place the known facts side by side.
Then we consider what those facts mean to you and how you understand them.
Values You Have Inherited
“Family should be this way.”
“This is what work means.”
“This is how money should be handled.”
“I am the eldest son/daughter, so I should…”
“It is my responsibility to preserve the family home.”
Some of the beliefs we have always considered normal may have been inherited from our families.
Becoming aware of them gives us the opportunity to ask:
“Is this something I still want to choose for myself?”
Roles You Have Taken On Within Your Family
The responsible one.
The one who endures.
The one who supports everyone else.
The one who meets expectations.
The one who never causes problems.
Roles we have occupied for many years within our families can sometimes continue to shape our relationships and choices in adulthood.
The purpose is not to decide whether those roles were good or bad.
Instead, we ask:
“Do I still need this role in my life today?”
That is the perspective I value.
What Has Been Passed Down to You
The “inheritance” explored through the Gosenzo Karte is not limited to values or family roles.
A home.
Land.
Work or a family business.
A family name.
Photographs.
Letters.
Keepsakes and personal belongings.
Stories told within the family.
We look at both tangible things and those that have been preserved through words and memory.
Through them, we make the question—
“What have I inherited?”
—more concrete.
The Gosenzo Karte Does Not Give You the Answer
Creating a Gosenzo Karte does not mean concluding:
“Your ancestors are the reason your life turned out this way.”
I do not present unverifiable emotions or intentions of ancestors as fact.
The Gosenzo Karte is not a tool for predicting the future.
Nor do you need to accept everything written in it as the definitive truth.
What matters is that it gives you more material with which to think for yourself.
“Perhaps this is something I inherited, too.”
“This is something I want to preserve.”
“This is something I want to bring to an end in my generation.”
“I want to make a different choice.”
What matters to me is that your own words begin to emerge.
A Karte for Choosing Again
We cannot change the past.
We cannot change the family we were born into.
We cannot change what was passed down to us.
And we cannot change what has already happened.
But:
We can choose what we do with what we have inherited from this point forward.
Keep it.
Let it go.
Reshape it.
Pass it on.
Bring it to an end with our generation.
Rather than allowing someone else to make those choices for us, we can make them for ourselves.
That is how I hope the Gosenzo Karte will be used.
The Difference Between Gosenzo Karte and Gosenzo Therapy
The Gosenzo Karte is a way of organizing what you have inherited and making it visible.
A private Gosenzo Therapy engagement goes further, continuing to explore the question:
“How do I want to live from here?”
Creating a Gosenzo Karte does not mean that you need to enter into a private Gosenzo Therapy engagement.
They serve different purposes.
Gosenzo Karte helps you understand what you have inherited.
Gosenzo Therapy helps you explore how you want to live once you understand what you have inherited.
Neither is about searching the past for an answer to your life.
They are about giving yourself greater freedom to choose what comes next.
Finally
I do not believe that learning about our ancestors is meant to bind us more tightly to the past.
Rather:
Knowing where you come from can help you decide, for yourself, where you want to go from here.
Know what you have inherited.
And then choose for yourself.
I hope the Gosenzo Karte can become a starting point for that choice.
